Christians have been worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ at Great Parks Chapel since 1935.  Originally a Brethren Gospel Hall, the style of public worship has changed over the years and Great Parks is now known as an independant, evangelical church.  This means the oversight and governing of the church is conducted locally by a group of leaders and the Bible is upheld as God's word and is preached faithfully every Sunday and at mid-week meetings.

On a typical Sunday morning there will be between 80 – 100 people in the chapel, many of whom participate in a mid-week Bible Study (Growth Groups).  On a Sunday evening there is a smaller congregation, usually with communion. At Great Parks the leaders recognise that many people struggle to believe the Bible is God’s word, and we attribute this largely to the teaching of evolution in schools and in the media.

As Christians we believe and teach that God made this world simply by speaking it into existence, that mankind is made in God’s image, and that death entered the good world that God created as a result of Adam’s disobedience.  The Bible declares that God made the world in six days and rested on the seventh. Because the Christian faith teaches that death is a result of Adam’s sin (1 Corinthians 15:21), it follows that any fossils in the world must have died after Adam’s disobedience.  The most likely explanation for fossils then, is that they show the rapid burial of animals in the time of Noah’s flood (c 4500 BC).  It is no surprise to Christians that fossils keep being discovered, this confirms what the Bible says happened to our world in the past.  The only dispute is the methods used to date the fossils.  For further discussion of this, please ask one of the leaders for our booklet ‘What really happened to the dinosaurs?’ or follow the link to the Answers in Genesis website for more information (http://www.answersingenesis.org/).

Great Parks Chapel’s mission statement can be summarised as follows:

Our mission is to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God,

help people become part of God’s family,

grow in devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ,

and live in obedience to Him by the power of the Holy Spirit.

For more information on our beliefs, please take a welcome pack when you come and visit.  Suffice it to say that the Christian faith and teachings at Great Parks Chapel rest on the long-standing truths of the Bible, and are expressed in the Apostle’s creed.

We believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

We believe in Jesus Christ,

his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.
